Fraudsters operating in Moot

Several fraudsters have recently been spotted in the Moot area.

Several fraudsters have recently been spotted operating in the Moot area and residents are being warned to be vigilant and report any suspicious behaviour.

The same man, about 60 years old, who robbed a business owner in Colbyn of R 9 000 tried robbing her at her second business in Villieria less than two weeks ago.

Trienie Steenkamp, the owner of two antique stores in Moot, could not believe her eyes when the same man, wearing the same set of clothes, tried to con her a second time. “I was so angry and in shock that I couldn’t move, but when I called the building supervisor for helped the man ran away and jumped on the train at 25th avenue.”

According to Steenkamp, this is the same man who robbed a friend of hers in Colbyn of R 12 000. “He is a common thief who doen’t have a conscience, but I believe that he will get what’s coming to him some day.”

In a similar incident in Colbyn two weeks ago, a man and woman walked into a nursery school and stole the owner’s camera.

The owner of the nursery school, who wishes to remain anonymous for security reasons, said she was not at the school when the incident occurred.

Cameras at the establishment recorded the woman distracting one of the employees, while the man grabbed the camera and placed it in a bag he was carrying.

According to the owner, they only realized later the camera had been stolen. “I am very sad that the camera was taken, but I am even sadder about the irreplacable photos that were on the camera.”

If anyone witnesses suspicious behaviour they should report it to the nearest police station.
