Centurion hit by cable theft again

Centurion residents expected to stay in the dark until midnight on Tuesday after cable theft at two substations.

Cable thieves ransacked the Brakfontein and Heuweloord substations in the early hours of Tuesday, leaving parts of Centurion without power.

Tshwane metro spokesperson Lindela Mashigo said technicians were working on the problem and power supply was expected to be restored to all affected areas by midnight on Tuesday.

“We would like to apologise for the inconvenience caused,” Mashigo said.

This is not the first time the Brakfontein substation has been hit by cable thieves. Centurion residents have been plummeted into the dark numerous times because of cable theft at the substation.

Residents were left in the dark for nearly four days in July when the Brakfontein substation was severely vandalised and the Kentron sub-station on the Highveld caught fire. Five other similar setbacks at Centurion substations have been reported in this period.
