Closed swimming pool will open soon

The Eersterust municipal swimming pool is temporarily closed for repairs, but will soon be ready for summer.

The municipal swimming pool in Eersterust will probably be closed for repairs until next weekend. The swimming pool’s other facilities, including the gymnasium and squash courts, will remain open to the public.

Lester Magardie, manager of the swimming pool, said the pool was inspected by Tshwane metro officials last week Wednesday and they discovered there were problems with the pool’s filtering system. “I realise that it is inconvenient for residents not to be able to make use of the pool, but if this problem is not fixed the pool can make anyone who swims there sick.”

He feels that a week’s inconvenience of temporarily closing the pool is a small sacrifice for the luxury of having a clean pool for the rest of summer. Magardie is also upset that residents are attacking him personally because of this problem.

“The swimming pool does not belong to me, I am just the manager here. The swimming pool is the property of Tshwane metro. This problem is not something I could stop or ignore and we are working as fast as possible to fix the problem.”

Magardie also said that the problem could not be solved without first draining the pool which, given the size of the pool, takes time. “I believe that the pool will be open again by next weekend,” Magardie said.

Tshwane metro was not available for comment at this time.
