A blast in Brooklyn left residents and businesses in the area without electricity on Friday afternoon.
Live power cables becoming entangled apparently caused the explosion on the corner of Jan Shoba and Murray streets.
An eyewitness, Anneke Le Roux, believed the danger was not immediately over as power cables were lying on the ground or dangling from electricity poles.
“People walking or riding a bicycle in the area might be shocked,” she said.
Tshwane metro employees arrived on the scene about an hour later, and determined that the cables lying around were not live. They were clearing the area later in the afternoon and seeking ways to restore the power supply.
A man who works in Brooklyn, Langa Mahlanga, said the problem came as no surprise to him.
“Three weeks ago when there was a strong wind, a cable shorted three times in succession. It was a lucky that there was no power cut at the time,” he said.
