Acclaim for poet from Pretoria North

Driekie Grobler, a poet from Pretoria North, has achieved acclaim for poetry published in the past year or two.

Pretoria North resident Driekie Grobler has achieved acclaim for poetry she produced in the past year or two.

Her debut collection Hartsnare was sold out in no time and had to be reprinted due to popular demand. It was accepted by Kwarts Publishers and transformed into an E-book sold by Leserskring, Kalahari and Kwarts publishers.

Grobler’s second work, Sirkeldans, was launched on Saturday 8 November at La Vie Classique in Florauna in Pretoria North.

Grobler said many good things had come from her second volume, which had been made accessible for the deaf through sign language interpretation on Kruiskyk in the Deaf Friendly program.

Several of her poems had been read on air by Radio Pretoria, Radio Namakwaland, Radio Impala and Radio Hosa.

Last year, Grobler came out as a category winner in the GHA’s (Die Genootskap vir die Handhawing van Afrikaans) annual poetry competition. The winning poem was Want ek is vrou, and will be taken up in the 2014 Bruidsgids.

This year, she was GHA winner in the category “Volkspele”.

Her winning poem Volkspel was also chosen as the winning poem to be associated with the 100th anniversary of the volkspele-movement.

“I honestly feel very honoured that my poem was chosen as the winning poem to celebrate this amazing milestone with them,” said Grobler.

A CD is in the pipeline with 20 of Grobler’s Christian poems being read with music in the background, and will hit the shelves before Christmas.
