“Father Christmas came to our crèche during the graduations. He gave me sweets, chocolates and played with us. I liked it and enjoyed it a lot. I wish he can come again to my home and give me presents on Christmas Day. Father Christmas is a good man. When we see him at the crèche he performed jokes to us.”
With this year’s Christmas weeks away, many children around Soshanguve, Mabopane, Ga-Rankuwa and Mamelodi are filled with excitement to celebrate the special day. Several have cherished a rare opportunity to rub shoulders with the famous Father Christmas, also known as Santa Claus, during their graduation ceremonies or at shopping centres across their areas.
Father Christmas is the traditional British name for a figure associated with Christmas, a forerunner of Santa Claus. He is known, largely by children, to be a generous man who gives them presents and spend time playing with them. Rekord spoke to various pre-school children about their enthusiasm for Father Christmas.
