No electricity after thunderstorm hits city

A severe thunder storm on Tuesday afternoon resulted in power outages in several areas in the capital city.

Several areas in the Tshwane metro were left without electricity on Tuesday afternoon after a severe thunderstorm hit the city.

Some of the areas that experienced power outage were Atteridgeville, Clubview, Eldoraigne, Laudium and Erasmia in the west.

According to the Tshwane metro spokesperson Selby Bokaba residents must phone the Tshwane metro electricity division on 012 358 9999 to lodge a complaint.

Bokaba said the power outage was not caused by load shedding.

“If there was load shedding we would have told residents in time, and load shedding is controlled by Eskom not the municipality.”

Bokaba told Rekord that both lines from Kwaggasrand to Lyttelton in Centurion were affected by lighting.

“Other areas include substations in Swartkop, Zebra and Eldoraigne. Our technicians are attending the problem and power would be restored soon.”
