The hunt continued on Friday for four or five men who posed as police officers in an attempted hijacking in Moreleta Park, police said.
“As far as I know, no arrests have been made and the men are still at large,” police spokesperson Warrant Officer Dave Miller said.
On Thursday morning, an eyewitness recorded a video on her phone of an attempted hijacking in front of a crèche in Moreleta Park.
Miller said the men tried to hijack the vehicle on the corner of Rubenstein and Helois roads around 08:00.
In the video, the bogus police officers are seen wearing police reflector vests while forcing the driver of a black BMW X5 and his passenger, a woman, out of the car.
The driver fought off the hijackers and ran for help while the woman ran towards the eyewitness recording the video.
Police later recovered bulletproof vests, reflector jackets, a blue light and two R5 rifles in an abandoned vehicle in Tembisa.
The would-be hijackers were driving a white BMW that was found abandoned in Tembisa.
