Competition and fun for all
Some 7 000 athletes took part in the 2015 Akasia Road race.
Over 7000 athletes gathered at the Wonderpark Shopping Centre for the annual Wonderpark Akasia 4 in 1 Road Race on Saturday morning.
This is the seventh year that Wonderpark Shopping Centre is hosting the race in conjunction with the Akasia Athletics Club.
This year’s biggest attraction for the race will be the inclusion of the 42.2 km Two Oceans Marathon and Comrades Marathon Qualifiers.
Other athletes participated in the 21.1km, 10 km and as well as the 5km fun run.
The race started with the 42.2km at 05:30 followed by 21.1 km at 05:45, 10km at 06:00 and ended with the 5km at 06:10.
The athletes were awarded medals and several give-aways while children were entertained at the supervised kids play area and with specials and promotion from the shops in the centre.
Proceeds from the 5km Fun Run will go towards charity.
