It was all smiles at Mveledzo Primary School in Mamelodi East, Tsakane, when 100 pupils received full school uniforms on Tuesday.
The youngsters received the uniforms as a donation by the department of social development. “Our wish is to see each and every pupil coming to school with confidence and in a proper school uniform,” Martha Galane, regional co-ordinator at social development, said.
The pupils received shirts, trousers, socks, shoes and tunics. “It always feels right for us to see the children happy in their new school uniforms. And it makes a big difference to the pupils and it gives them courage to come to school every day. We hope to give them more,” said Galane. “This project also helps fight poverty within the community. The service provider for the uniform this year was the Thino Thenda Co-operative.”
School principal Elizabeth Lebese said: “Most pupils at our school come from underprivileged homes and the new school uniforms mean a lot to the pupils. This will help with their confidence and we are really grateful for the support we get from social development.”
“I’m happy for the new school uniforms and I am going to look like other pupils starting from today,” Happy Chabalala (9), a grade 3 pupil, said.
