Parents are urged to play an active role in their children’s education by taking part in this year’s school governing body (SGB) elections, which are to take place between 6 and 28 March, Democratic Alliance (DA) Gauteng Shadow MEC for education, Khume Ramulifho, said.
“The success of schools is dependent on good governance. Competent SGBs are the driving factor behind achieving quality educational outcomes,” he said.
The Gauteng department of basic education will launch the SGB election campaigns on Friday.
“These elections are the third largest elections after the national general and local government elections and will see over 2 400 public schools in Gauteng participating, with over 2.1 million ballot papers,” said spokesperson Phumla Sekhonyane.
Parents are urged to contact their child’s school for information on when their elections will take place.
