Seven cable thieves busted

Private investigators bust cable thieves in Doringkloof.

Private investigators arrested seven suspects for cable theft in Doringkloof on Tuesday morning.

According to Roy Robertson of Combined Private Investigations (CPI), at 23:30 last night, 25 metres of underground copper feeder cables were stolen. “We dropped off some of our investigators at the scene. They searched and found the cables in a small river. The thieves had hidden it there and the investigators knew they would be back for it. The investigators waited, and in the early hours of the morning, they arrested seven suspects as they attempted to pick up the cable.”

According to Democratic Alliance spokesperson for electricity in Tshwane, Ina Strijdom, CPI was contacted after the Doringkloof substation, close to Doringkloof Mall, lost power. “CPI investigators arrested the men and took them to Lyttelton police station to be charged. Well done to the CPI team.”

Robertson added that CPI has been contracted by the City of Tshwane to investigate cable theft. “Every month we catch about 75 cable thieves in the act. We don’t just arrest the thieves and leave it there. We also ensure the dockets and evidence arrive at court so that the thieves are sentenced.”
