A man had to be released from police custody after he was shot and wounded in a hijacking in Nellmapius two weeks ago, spokesperson Jan Sepato police said on Monday.
“The suspect was in hospital after he was accidentally shot by the hijacker. After his release, we took him to the station but could not keep him because of inconclusive evidence,” said Sepato.
“We will have to wait for the investigation to be completed.”
Sepato said the hijacker was still on the run.
On 17 March, two men hijacked a delivery van at gun point in Nellmapuis. A shot was fired and the bullet ricocheted off the driver’s hip and hit one of the men. The wounded man ran away and found his way to a hospital for treatment where he was arrested by police.
The hijacker escaped with the van that was found abandoned a day later.
