Robbers caught after police chase
Hamanskraal police arrested three men after a police chase on Thursday.
Three men were arrested on Thursday after a man was robbed of R43 000 in Wallmantshal, Hamanskraal, police spokesperson Constable Herman Moremi said.
Moremi said the arrests took place near the N1 highway after a police chase at around 14:00.
“The suspects followed a 58-year-old man from the bank. When the man arrived home in Temba, the suspects held him at gunpoint and took R43 000 which he had just withdrawn from the bank.”
The armed robbers fled with their victim’s car keys.
The man then used his spare keys to follow the robbers and reported the incident to police who he met on the way, Moremi said.
“Police chased after the suspects while the flying squad blocked the road. The suspects lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a pole.”
Moremi said the three men, aged between 33 and 40, were detained.
An undisclosed amount of money was found in their possession, however, police did not recover the firearms, he said.
“The silver-grey Volkswagen Polo which they were driving was found with false registration plates and police discovered the car was stolen in February last year.”
Moremi said no one was injured and no shots were fired.
The robbers are held at the Sinoville police station.
