A Tshwane metro police officer was hit by a vehicle while travelling on his motorcycle, Sunday evening. The officer was on his way home from work when the accident happened in Bremer Street.
The driver of the vehicle that hit the officer’s motorcycle with his white Colt bakkie apparently fled the scene. According to metro police spokesperson Senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba the officer’s shoulder was injured and he only sustained minor injuries.
“The driver of the vehicle fled the scene, and after we conducted our investigations we managed to trace him in Midrand. The man (26) was taken to the Hercules police station where he is currently detained,” Mahamba said.
Mahamba said the injured inspector was placed on sick leave until he has fully recovered.
Police spokesperson, Captain Thomas Mufamadi confirmed the accident. “The man is still in police custody and will be appearing in the Pretoria Magistrate’s court soon.”
At this stage it is alleged the 26-year-old driver of the Colt bakkie skipped a red light and ended up hitting the officer’s motorcycle, but police are still investigating the case further.
