Two arrested for R70 000 stolen cables

Two men were arrested after R70 000 worth of stolen copper cables was found on Thursday.

Copper cables worth R70 000 were recovered on Thursday after two men were arrested in Hercules, Tshwane metro police spokesperson Senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba said.

He said the men were apprehended around 14:00 after constant monitoring by the metro police.

“The arrest came after they fell for our trap. We might make a breakthrough of cable theft in the Pretoria West area as they might help us track down other copper cable theft in the area,” Mahamba said.

He said the men, both from Atteridgeville, will appear in court soon on charges of possession of stolen copper cables.

“We are going to try to oppose bail until we are sure that they cannot help us with other copper cable cases.”

Mahamba said no other illegal items were found.
