12 000 new SGB members to be inaugurated

Newly elected school governing body members will be inaugurated by the Gauteng education MEC on Saturday.

Over 12 000 newly elected school governing body (SGB) members will be inaugurated on Saturday, the Gauteng department of education said.

SGB elections took place across the province from 6 to 28 March – the third largest elections after the national general and local government elections.

Spokesperson Phumla Sekhonyane said members from 2 190 public schools would be inaugurated by Gauteng education MEC Panyaza Lesufi at the Coca Cola Dome in Johannesburg from 09:00.

“The inauguration ceremony will be an opportunity for the department to share the vision of building a world-class education system enabled by technology. During the ceremony the department will showcase the paperless classroom project and its programme of reorganising schools for specialisation.”
