A police officer from the Olievenhoutbosch police station was arrested after numerous cases of fraud and corruption were opened against him, provincial police spokesperson Lieutenant Kay Makhubela said on Friday.
Makhubela said the warrant officer was arrested on Thursday after several investigations against him.
“He took bribes from the public and in some instances he would take money to prevent suspects from going in court,” he said.
He said in some cases, the officer would forge signatures from the court for dockets to be closed.
He would also take money on behalf of drunk drivers to prevent their cases from going to court.
Makhubela said the officer also had a pending case against him from his superiors after swearing at his station commanders.
“There are many corruption cases against him. We have been investigating him for a very long time.”
He said the man is expected to appear at the Pretoria Magistrates Court on Monday.
