Police are searching for a gang of men terrorising the residents of smallholdings in Hercules, in the west of Pretoria.
Police spokesperson Captain Bonginkosi Msimango said the ‘crowbar gang’, as they are known, had been laying low. “The situation at the plots is calm at the moment. The gang has not attacked since they have been made known.”
He said police were investigating the case and were on the hunt for the notorious gang.
The gang has targeted residents living on smallholdings in Hercules, and has a specific modus operandi.
“The men use a crowbar to gain entry into the victims’ home. Then they fire a shot, and sometimes assault the victims before stealing whatever valuables they can from the home and fleeing the scene,” Msimango explained.
The Hercules community policing forum recently donated whistles to the community so that they could use them whenever they saw the men or were being attacked.
