Three arrested for Ford Ranger theft
Three men were caught and arrested on Saturday after they stole two Ford Rangers from a car dealership in Centurion.
Police arrested three men on Saturday afternoon after they stole vehicles from Lazarus Motors Company in Highveld, Centurion.
Lyttelton police spokesperson Warrant Officer Hero Gumbu said one of the men had gone to the car dealership on Friday, pretending to want to buy a car.
“He said he wanted to take a look at the Ford Rangers. He asked the salesperson for the keys for three of the Rangers so he can take a look inside,” he said.
He said upon leaving, the man had swapped the keys and returned the wrong keys to the salesperson.
Gumbu said the man returned to the dealership that night with two accomplices and fled with two Ford Rangers.
“One of the Ford Rangers was found abandoned in Botha Avenue. Police also saw the vehicle the man used when he went to the dealership on Friday, driving by,” he said.
He said police chased after the car and managed to force it off the road.
Three Ford Ranger keys were found in the man’s vehicle, he said.
“The culprit said the other stolen vehicle was parked at Stay Easy hotel in the CBD and he led us to the other two accomplices.”
The three men, aged 27, 30 and 45 were arrested and face charges of theft of motor vehicles.
“We would like to commend Constable Pitlo and Warrant Officer Legodi for their great work and arresting these men.”
