Four police officers were arrested in Sinoville on Tuesday after a house robbery in Akasia in the early hours of the morning.
Provincial police spokesperson Major Mack Mngomezulu said the four officers gained entry to the house around 04:00. They roused the owner and told her that they were police officers investigating a crime.
“The officers even showed her proof of their occupation. The policemen are from various stations across Pretoria,” Mngomezulu said.
He said the policemen forced the woman into her vehicle and drove to a fast-food outlet in Sinoville where they parked her vehicle.
“The officers then loaded the woman back into their vehicle and drove back to her house in Akasia where they robbed cellphones, laptops and an undisclosed amount of cash,” he said.
Employees from the fast-food outlet noticed the vehicle in front of the shop and alerted the Sinoville police.
Police staked out the area and waited for the owner of the vehicle to return.
Mngomezulu said the officers returned to the woman’s vehicle, where police were lying in wait.
The four offices, three of whom were junior members, were arrested for house breaking and were expected to appear in court soon.
The woman was not harmed during the robbery.
Earlier this month, two police officers were arrested by the Akasia police on charges of corruption.
Gauteng police spokesperson Lieutenant Kay Makhubela said the officers, a reservist constable and a constable stationed at Akasia police station, were arrested on 10 April after a tip-off.
“The two officers were supposed to investigate a charge of domestic violence. While on the case, they asked the man they were investigating for a bribe to drop the investigation. The man gave them some money, but they said they wanted to collect more during a next meeting,” Kay said.
Makhubela said the man told the Akasia police what had happened.
“The police then decided to set a trap for the two officers at Wonderpark Mall, where the man was supposed to hand over the rest of the money. He arrived as scheduled and as he handed them the money, they were promptly arrested.”
