Charges have been dropped against two men who had been suspected of stabbing a 25-year-old man to death in Marabastad last week.
Police spokesperson Captain Augustinah Selepe said the two men (23 and 25), were released because investigations discovered they were not linked to the murder. “They were given a warning and let go after a brief appearance on Friday,” she said.
Selepe said investigations continued and urged residents to come forward with any information they might have.
The body of a man with a stab wound in the chest was discovered near a river in Marabastad last week. “It is still unknown what the motive was for the murder and which object was used,” Selepe said.
Selepe explained that the men who had initially been suspected to have killed the victim were not linked to the murder. “We can confirm, however, the three used to spend time together.”
The family of the victim had been located and were informed of the man’s death.
