Adrenalin junkies were served their favourite dose of spine-tingling motorcycle stunts at the Freaky Wheeler stunts show recently.
Odi raceway hosted this high-octane event with several professional stunt artists from South Africa showing off their motorcycling skills.
The audience was treated to gut-wrenching stunts such as wheelies, 180 endos, biscuit-eater tricks, 50/50 burnout and switchbacks.
“We are the trying to do something that has not been done in the biking community. We are trying to change the perception of stunt bikes. Paramedics were on standby in case of an accident,” said organiser Liba Mashigo.
Even amateur stunt bikers had a chance to learn to do wheelies for as little as R50. XDL South Africa brought a wheelie machine to the event to teach potential stunt artists.
“Our main aim is to get more people into bike stunting. I have to build the sport and the best thing is that I bought the wheelie machine which people can book. We teach them how to do different stunts,” said Claudia Stewart, president of XDL South Africa.
Phodisho Dikobe, a spectator and bike owner, said the audience was overwhelmed by the speed and the sound of the super bikes.
“I am happy because this was the best event so far. I have seen the best stunts,” said Dikobe.
The stunt artists also had a good time.
“The support here was very impressive. We would like to see something like this again,” said stunt artists Olloff Denuyschen.
Gerhard Vermaak obtained first position for best drifter with Denuyschen as the second best drifter. The best freestyler was awarded to Denuyschen and the second place went to Uakon Stewart.
