Sport highlights, 29-31 May
The Comrades Marathon and SupeRugby will dominate the weekend's sports action.
Although there will be action on other sports fronts this weekend, the Comrades Marathon in KwaZulu-Natal will probably be the highlight for many sports lovers this weekend.
With the domestic football season and the Indian premier league cricket tournament now a thing of the past, all the attention will shift to the Comrades and rugby.
Athletics
The world famous Comrades ultra-marathon will be presented for the 90th time this year. The race will start at 06:00 on Sunday morning and this year’s race is an “up”-run from Durban to Pietermaritzburg.
Although thousands of Pretorians will line up for this race, there is great excitement about two local women participants, Charné Bosman and Caroline Wostmann. They count among the South African favourites for the race. If there is someone who could beat the two Russian sisters, Elena and Olesya Nurgalieva, then it is one of these two local girls.
Rugby
For Pretorians who like to support schools and club rugby, there will be a lot of local action this weekend. The rest will have to rely on the TV to see some action.
Vodacom Cup Final: Saturday at 14:00 the WP and the Pumas meet in the final of the Vodacom Cup at Newlands in Cape Town.
SupeRugby: All four South African teams will be in action this weekend. The Bulls are first in line. They play against the Brumbies in Canberra on Friday 29 May at 11:40 (SA time).
Friday night at 19:10 the Sharks will play against the Rebels in Durban.
The only South African derby will take place on Saturday at 17:05 in Cape Town when the Stormers will take on the Cheetahs.
The weekend’s SupeRugby action will end on Saturday night at 19:10 in Johannesburg when the Lions play against the defending champions, the Waratahs.
