A man was beaten with a hammer during a business robbery in his home in Soshanguve Block R in the early hours of Tuesday, police said on Wednesday.
Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Lolo Mangena said four suspects assaulted a man in his home before fleeing away with cash and other valuable items that were stolen from the shop.
“The complainant was allegedly woken up by the sound of a tool hitting a wall. As he got up he went to another room to close the burglar door and as he did, four people appeared. They took out a hammer and hit him on the shoulder a couple of times while demanding money. They stole an undisclosed amount of cash, airtime, cigarettes and his cellphone from the shop before they fled,” he said.
“It is believed that the people entered into the house through a hole because the complainant was woken by a noise and that was when the perpetrators were hitting the wall with a hammer to gain entry into the house,” Mangena said.
Mangena said the injured man was taken to a hospital for treatment and a case of business robbery was opened.
