SPAR Women’s Challenge launched

The Pretoria leg of the SPAR Women’s Challenge, the biggest in the SPAR Women’s Challenge Grand Prix series, was launched in the city on Thursday.

The official launch of the Pretoria leg of the SPAR Women’s Challenge was held at Atterbury Theatre in Pretoria on Thursday.

This heralded the formal opening of entries to the race. The race date for the challenge was made public, this year’s theme was revealed and the brand ambassadors as well as beneficiaries were unveiled.

“SPAR is very excited to see the Pretoria leg of the SPAR Women’s Challenge kick off with such a bang, because we know that once the race is officially launched, it is all systems go for everybody involved,” said Jerome Jacobs, SPAR North Rand’s Marketing Director.

The 2015 edition of the SPAR Women’s Challenge will begin at 14:00 on Saturday 29 August 2015 at Super Sport Park in Centurion.

As always, the race will offer 25 000 women from all walks of life the opportunity to partake in a 5km or a 10km race, and the starting points will be split as was done so successfully at the 2014 challenge.

Women will also have the opportunity to compete in the Grand Prix Series which the challenge has on offer every year – a series of five 10km races hosted across the country, which challenges the entrants to earn points based on their performances in each race.

Jacobs and his very dedicated marketing team are confident this year’s challenge theme will ignite a spark in the heart of every man, woman and child.

“Stepping For…” can mean many different things to so many different people, and SPAR has really left the door open for interpretation, because it wants to keep the challenge as personal and close to home as possible.

“Stepping For…” is a theme which calls upon all the friends and family members of the SPAR Women’s Challenge to put their own needs aside, and to step into the void for something or someone else.

At the launch the official brand ambassadors of the 2015 edition of the SPAR Women’s Challenge were also announced.

Jacobs said these outstanding men and women were handpicked by SPAR based on their efforts in using their positions and success in life to make tangible changes to the world around them.

“They represent the spirit of the race and the epitome of the values it represents. We are proud to have them on board.”

This year’s group of brand ambassadors includes big names like Pierre Spies, Zoleka Mandela, Ivan Botha, Donnalee Roberts, Bouwer Bosch, Mapaseka Makhanya, Hanna Grobler, Annie Malan, Willem Botha, Gary Rom, Melanie Du Bois, and Jacques Blignaut.

For as long as the SPAR Women’s Challenge has been going, all the proceeds have gone to charity.

This year, the beneficiaries include Jacaranda Good Morning Angels, The Chrysalis Foundation, Irene Homes, HelpNet, The Zoleka Mandela Foundation, Cupcakes 4 Kids with Cancer, Hanna Charity & Empowerment Foundation and Stand With Stan.

Based on the people’s requests, SPAR split the starting points for the 5 and 10km races last year for the first time.

Last year also saw the entire event being live-streamed, making it possible for the entire world to be a part of the race-day magic.

In keeping with their efforts to respond to feedback from their audience, SPAR has added a peak cap to its entry form welcome pack given to the first 25 000 entrants.

The pack includes a race number, t-shirt and a copy of My Race Magazine. On race day every lady will receive a goodie-bag filled with wonderful products, and a medal.

Entry forms are now available at SPAR stores across Pretoria or online. Please visit www.sparladiespta.co.za for more information.
