Pupils develop rugby playing skills

Hundreds of pupils various primary schools around Pretoria participated in the Danie Malan Bulletjie rugby day on Saturday.

Laerkool Danie Malan hosted a successful bulletjie rugby day to provide young stars from four to eight years old with an opportunity to develop basic skills to play rugby on Saturday.

The event saw more than 600 pupils from eight Pretoria primary schools – Stephanus Roos, Magalieskruin, Rachel de Beer, Theresapark, Wonderboom, Kameelfontein and Danie Malan – taking part.

“The event was a huge success,” Joeanne Tintinger, one of the organisers, said. Tintinger said the working together of teachers and parents had been their secret to successfully host the rugby day.

This achievement makes the school to consider hosting a Danie Malan bulletjie rugby day annually.

Reghardt van Tonder (8), a Laerskool Danie Malan pupil who took part in the event, said it was exciting and entertaining.

“I had lots of fun. I like playing rugby,” Van Tonder said.

Pupils and spectators also enjoyed watching strongman Rudi Viljoen’s short performance during a break.

Viljoen showed his power through lifting various items weighing hundreds of kilograms.
