A bystander was shot and wounded in an attempted robbery in Soshanguve on Wednesday.

Police spokesperson Captain Rheineth Motlana said a man trying to rob a security guard accidentally shot a bystander before fleeing the scene.

“A Fidelity Guard vehicle was delivering cash at Thorntree Shopping Complex at Roots Butchery when the man tried to take the guard’s rifle but was overpowered,” said Motlana.

“The suspect pulled out his firearm to shoot the security guard. He pulled the trigger but unfortunately hit a bystander. After that, a black Polo Vivo with two occupants appeared. The man jumped in and the car sped off.”

Motlana said the victim was rushed to the George Mukhari Hospital.

The police were investigating.
