Attempted hijackers arrested in Centurion
Three attempted hijackers were caught and arrested in Centurion on Friday morning.
Three men were arrested on Friday morning after they tried to hijack a motorist’s car in Rooihuiskraal.
Wierdabrug Sector 2 CPF caught the men around 10:00 on the corner of Swallow and Harrier streets.
Spokesperson Pierre Viviers said the men, aged 27, 31 and 39 had tried to hijack a man’s car in Bosloerie Street but fled the scene in a white Uno after the hijacking failed.
He said the hijackers’ escape failed when they got stuck with damage to their own car’s tyre.
The hijackers were spotted by a patroller who lives close to the spot where the hijackers got stuck.
“We called for backup and that is when our patrollers closed in on them and caught two of the men. The third was found on the road, on his way to get the damaged tyre fixed,” he said.
Viviers said one of the hijackers was wearing an ankle tracking device, issued to parolees by correctional service to monitor their movement. “We also found a gun in the car. The men were picked up by Wierdabrug police.”
Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Katlego Mogale said the man with the ankle device was out on parole after being detained for rape.
“The suspects will appear in court soon on charges of attempted hijacking and possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition.”
