Woman stabbed with broken bottle
A man was arrested on Wednesday after he stabbed a woman with a broken bottle in an attempted rape.
A woman was stabbed with a broken bottle in an attempted rape on Wednesday, the Akasia Action Group (AAG) said.
Spokesperson Erich Landsberg said a man approached the woman on Willem Cruywagen Road and 1st Avenue around 13h30 and told her he was going to rape her.
“When the woman took out her phone to call for help, the man stabbed her with a broken Savanna bottle and took off with her phone.”
Landsberg said the man was spotted in bushes near Akasia High School.
The Heatherdale Action Group assisted in the search for the man and he was caught near an old building.
Landsberg said angry residents grabbed the man, intent on beating him, but AAG members pulled him away.
“We then called the Akasia police to collect the man.”
He said the woman suffered minor injuries with wounds on her hands.
“The woman is fine. Her phone is still hidden in the veld,” said Landsberg.
Akasia police spokesperson Captain Riana van Aarde said the man was arrested and detained.
“We are investigating a robbery with a weapon other than a firearm,” she said.
