Off duty police officer badly assaulted
Off duty police officer attacked in Lotus Gardens.
An off duty Pretoria Central police officer was badly assaulted on Friday evening.
According to police spokesperson Captain Louise Reed-Steynberg, the officer was in Lotus Gardens when he was attacked.
“According to the information we received the officer was in Lotus Gardens with his friends when a Ford Figo forced them off the road.”
She said three men got out of the Figo and approached the vehicle the officer was in. Before the men reached the car, the officer was apparently out of the vehicle.
“A shot was fired into the air and another was fired at the officer but luckily it missed him. He was then assaulted,” Steynberg said.
The officer’s firearm and wallet was taken from him during the incident.
Xander Loubser from Best care ambulance services said the policeman had been assaulted with unknown objects.
“The officer made a run to the Pretoria West SAPS after he sustained serious head wounds which were bleeding profusely and we were contacted by the police. The incident happened at about 23:45,” Loubser said.
“On arrival we assessed the patient and had to stop life-threatening arterial bleeding.”
Paramedics managed to get the bleeding under control before transporting him to Eugene Marais Hospital.
Steynberg said currently, the police had opened a case of robbery of a firearm and were still investigating further.
