Security guards robbed at research centre
Four armed men ambush security guards at a research centre in Irene.
Two security guards at the Agricultural Research Centre were tied up and robbed on Sunday morning.
The incident took place at about 11:30. Monitor Net operations manager, Theo Petzer said the guards were inside the guardhouse when the armed men attacked them.
“The armed robbers were driving a white car but the guards could not see the registration or the make of the vehicle. The men took off with two cell phones, equipment from the safe, hand radios, a monitor and camera screens.”
Petzer said Monitor Net attended the scene after the the alarms at the centre were triggered. The two two guards were unharmed.
Police had not given a comment at the time of publication.
