ATM users urged to be vigilant of robbers when withdrawing money
Police warn ATM users to be extra careful after withdrawing money and leaving the bank.

ATM users are warned to always check who might be close by when withdrawing money at shopping centres and malls, police said on Tuesday.
Spokesperson Warrant Officer Matthews Nkoadi said people need to be vigilant when they leave ATM machines because they might be followed and robbed of their cash on their way home. People who withdraw money should always alert the security guards or police if they feel that someone may be following them.
“A number of cases have been reported over the weekend where people were robbed of thousands of rands. Three men were robbed on Friday in separate incidents. The first victim was robbed of R5 000. A second one of R15 000 while a third victim was robbed of R25 000. All of the robberies occurred just outside the Ga-Rankuwa mall,” he said.
Nkoadi said the suspects roam around malls and ATM machines while keeping an eye on ATM users. “A lot of victims are usually the ones who withdraw thousands. We have not heard any cases where a person was robbed R1 000 or less,” he said.
Nkoadi said police were doing their best to make sure ATM users were safe. No one has been arrested so far.
