Power finally restored to Elardus Park and Rietvalleirand areas

After a power failure following load-shedding this morning, areas in the east finally have their power again.

Residents in parts of Elardus Park, Rietvalleirand and Mamelodi stuggled without power for most of the day when, after their load shedding ended at 12:00, the power was cut off again.

According to Vickey Bosch, DA councillor for ward 79, the power was restored for about five minutes before everything was down again.

“I am still not sure what exactly caused the power failure, but it is suspected that a mini-substation for the area was responsible,” Bosch said on Sunday evening.

“The power was finally restored at around 17:30 this afternoon, but I am very concerned about these kinds of power failures, as there are two retirement villages in the area and many people are dependent on oxygen machines.”

She said most of the frail, elderly residents could not breathe properly without these oxygen machines, and therefore being without power for the better part of the day could be dangerous for them.
