Exciting cricket expected again in third Titans Bash
Club players and rookies will again get the chance to play on the same field than seasoned professional players in the coming Titans Bash, which will be presented from 17 to 20 September.
The annual Titans bash of the Unlimited Titans comes up again on 17 September, and its free.
The innovation of CEO Jacques Faul is based loosely on the Indian IPL with a twist, taking the best of international talent, a dash of local professional stars and a sprinkling of the best of school cricket to mix together to create the explosive extravaganza and fireworks.
And is always the case, even the best of innovations requires men with deep pockets behind it.
That is why these players are then offered to the corporates to bid for and create teams in their own image, including naming rights to the highest bidder.
The bidding was done in June, giving the four teams participating is this year’s competition their names — Megastars, Pirates, Phantoms and Tornados.
The bash embraces that word which has become a swearword in sport, quotas
Teams are required to tick all the boxes — players of colour, check and schoolboys, well, check.
But to ensure quality, the quota players must have taken 17 wickets or more and scored 300 runs in the league to qualify.
Top players for the Titans Theunis de Bruyn, Farhaan Behardien, Ethy Mbhalati, Graham van Buuren and Henry Davids all made the cut. Phew.
In addition to these well-known names, young rising star and former SA under-19 captain Aiden Markram, another a U19 world champion, Corbin Bosch and provincial players Mangaliso Moshele, Heino Kuhn, Shaun von Berg and Eden Links will also be in action.
All the matches will be played at SuperSport Park and admission for spectators is free.
The action starts on Thursday 17 September at 10:00 with the opening game between the Phantoms and the Megastars.
At 13:30 the Tornados take on the Pirates.
Friday and Saturday teams will take each other on in a round robin but Sunday is reserved for the final which will start at 13:30
