Pupils at Abbotts College in Centurion will have an opportunity to undergo free subject choice assessment to help them make more informed decisions about their subject choices.
“Choosing the correct subjects is extremely important and should not be taken lightly. The subjects a student choose will ultimately influence the options available when considering tertiary studies,” Abbots College’s Christelle Wolmarans said.
She said that certain university courses required students to take specific subjects. If the subjects were not taken, certain fields of study will be closed off.
“It is therefore important to do thorough research on the different courses and subject requirements before any decision about subjects should be made.”
Insight into one’s strengths, weaknesses, interests, personality and values are important to ensure an informed decision about their future field of study can be made.
“If students are not sure about any of their strengths, weaknesses, interests and values, it is recommended that they consider undergoing a comprehensive subject choice assessment in Grade 9.”
A subject choice assessment should include the following:
· An aptitude test to determine strengths and weaknesses.
· An interest questionnaire to determine preferred fields of interests
· A personality questionnaire to establish a personality profile and careers that best suit the specific personality profile
· Information regarding values.
This process will help the pupil to make an informed decision about their subjects and future.
“Through this initiative Abbotts College Centurion and Pretoria campuses aim to provide a much more holistic service to their communities and provide the students with the necessary tools.”
