Water restrictions due to heatwave
Tshwane metro announces water restrictions following severe heatwave.

Two massive water tankers have been dispatched to the east of Pretoria after the Tshwane metro announced on Friday, it had effected temporary city-wide water restrictions following the severe heatwave.
DA councillor for ward 42, Bronwyn Engelbrecht said affected areas included Waterkloof Rif, Waterkloof Heights and Erasmusrand.
“One water tanker is located on the corner of Matroosberg and Strelitzia roads in Waterkloof Heights and the other on the corner of Cygnus and Polaris avenues in Waterkloof Ridge,” she said.
She said the Constantia Park Water reservoir only had about 4% of its capacity left. “Residents have been experiencing a water shortage for the past few days,” she said.
Engelbrecht advised residents to use water sparingly.
Tshwane Metro spokesperson Selby Bokaba said on Friday, the restriction had been effected following sporadic water interruptions due to extremely hot weather.
“The heat wave has seen an increase in demand for water resulting in reservoirs across the metro operating from a very low level. This has also slowed down the pace at which the reservoirs fill up and some high lying areas are experiencing low water pressure already. The schedule of the restrictions cannot be determined as they are dependent on the water levels in the reservoirs,” he said.
Bokaba said a spot fine in terms of the metro’s by-laws would be issued if restrictions were not adhered to.
“The metro is pleading with all residents to use water sparingly and to not water their gardens during the day until the situation has stabilised,” he said.
