Flames lit up the night sky as a fire raged through a house in Doornpoort on Sunday night.

“I was sitting in my living room watching television, when I heard a crash,” Sandvygie Street resident, Charlene Jackson told Rekord on Monday.

“I ran out to see my neighbour’s house on fire.”

Jackson said her husband ran out to try and douse the flames with water, another neighbour ran into the house to help get a woman and her children out to safety.

“It was around 10:45 when we got the call about the fire,” spokesperson for the Sinoville Firefighting Association (SFFA) Zenobia Loock-Du Plessis said.

The SFFA team, a group of voluntary firefighters, arrived on the scene shortly and was joined by sector police.

The flames were doused and the family escaped without serious injury.

The cause of the fire was not confirmed and investigations continue.
