House worker escapes death
Robber pleas with his accomplices to not kill a house guard they had allegedly taken with after robbing a house in Cullinan.
A house worker in Cullinan east of Pretoria was tied up and almost killed by robbers on Friday evening, police said.
Three heavily armed robbers ambushed a worker on a smallholding where the man lives and works for the owner.
Cullinan Police spokesperson Constable Connie Moganedi said the robbers demanded the keys to the house from the worker. He did not have the keys and the robbers walked with him to the main house.
“The robbers walked with the victim to his employer’s house which was locked and there was nobody inside. They then forced open the shower window. Another group of four armed men also joined the first group while one culprit remained at the gate,” she said.
Moganedi said the seven men managed to get inside the house and cut open the kitchen gate and two safe doors with a grinder.
“The men took several hunting rifle from the safes, bags of clothes, a television set, musical system and a Toyota Bakkie which was parked inside the yard,” she said.
Moganedi said the total value of the stolen items was unknown because police were still investigating.
After looting the house, the robbers tied up the worker with cable ties and a plastic robe.
The eight men apparently drove away with the worker and planned to kill him.
“They parked the vehicle next to the dam near Mamelodi Crossing and discussed to kill and dump the worker in the dam,” she said.
“One suspect pleaded with them in Afrikaans that they should not kill the worker. The worker was released but left tied up in the bush.”
The worker apparently managed to walk to the main road where he came across a security guard at a nearby smallholding. The guard untied the worker and called the police.
No arrests have been made.
