Bongani Charles Mnguni who has been convicted of murder, rape and several other crimes will be sentenced in the Pretoria High Court on Wednesday.
He had also been found guilty of kidnapping, assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm and robbery.
Between May and September 2013, Mnguni approached vulnerable women in Daveyton and Tsakane offering them employment at either Mondi or Tupperware. He requested the women to bring along their CVs for a meeting, supposedly with the manager in Geluksdal.
When they turned up Mnguni convinced the women to walk with him through a bush, where he raped and robbed them. He would then ask them why they were crying and that he loved them.
In court, he said the women had consented to sexual intercourse in lieu of money.
The court also found that Mnguni had killed one of his victims by hitting her on the head with a porcelain toilet bowl.
The deceased had informed her family she was meeting a man called Bongani, who had offered her a job and that they would meet the manager on 21 August 2013.
The woman was found unconscious by herdsman the following day. She was naked and had serious head injuries. She never regained consciousness and later died.
DNA that matched Mnguni was found on the woman’s body. However, Mnguni claimed he had been in a relationship with the deceased and had fathered a child with her.
Mnguni said the intercourse between them was consensual but denied any knowledge of what might have led to her death.
The national prosecuting authority spokesperson Luvuyo Mfaku said: “We are confident that life imprisonment will be imposed.”
