Decision on dog killing awaited
Police have sent the case of a man who shot a dog on Saturday to the public prosecutor for a decision.

A decision was still pending on the possible prosecution of a man who shot a dog dead in Suiderberg in the Moot.
The shooting on the corner of Bremer and Boschberg streets happened around 18:30 on Saturday, police said.
Spokesperson, Captain Bonginkosi Msimango said the 29-year-old man was bitten by his neighbour’s dog while walking in the street.
“The man sustained minor injuries but was taken to Bougainville Hospital and was discharged the same night. He then came to report the matter at the police station,” Msimango said.
He said after he was bitten by the dog, the man apparently went home to get his pistol and then shot the dog.
“The man shot and killed a German-Shepard dog with his licensed pistol. Four cartridges were found near the carcass,” said Msimango.
Police opened a malicious damage to property docket. The possibility that the owner of the dog failed to keep the animal inside his yard was also being investigated.
Msimango said: “The pistol that was used in the shooting has been seized for further investigation. The case has been sent to the public prosecutor for a decision and no arrests have been made at this stage.”
A Facebook community group post claimed the dog had been shot several times.
Speculation as to what exactly had happened has been going around in the group. Some claimed they heard 20 shots being fired.
A resident, who asked not to be named, said the dog was shot twice, then again three times. She did not know what exactly made the man shoot the dog.
Two weeks ago, two dogs were shot in Pretoria Gardens by its owner’s son-in-law. The man apparently shot dead two boerboels that had reportedly attacked his child while they were visiting the in-laws.
“While still visiting the family, the two boerboels apparently attacked the man’s child. The child was not badly hurt, but had to be taken for treatment,” Msimango said at the time.
He said the man then took a gun and killed the two dogs. His father-in-law called the police after the shooting.
