The search is still on for the Atteridgeville prisoner who escaped from the Atteridgeville correctional centre three weeks ago.
Department of Correctional Service spokesperson Ofentse Morwane confirmed on Thursday the prisoner was still on the run and no new developments had been made since his escape.
“The offender, Onyango Kin Owino, who is a Ugandan national, escaped from the sports field where inmates were playing soccer,” Morwane said earlier.
Morwane said the identikit of Owino will be released soon so the public can help identify him.
“Preliminary investigation shows the offender bent the palisade fence to create a gap through which he escaped,” he said.
Police spokesperson Constable Tumisang Moloto said earlier this month, other law enforcement agencies were assisting them during the search.
“The escapee was serving a four year sentence for vehicle theft,” Moloto said.
