Video: Traffic officer assaults driver

A video shows how a traffic officer aggressively confronts a motorist near an accident scene.

A video posted on social media shows how a traffic officer aggressively confronts a motorist near an accident scene.

David du Toit told Rekord on Friday, he was assaulted by the traffic officer on the N4 Bakwena/N1 South interchange.

“I was driving with my wife. We got stuck in traffic due to an accident just short off the interchange,” Du Toit explained.

“My wife was making a video on her phone as we approached the scene. I was waiting patiently behind the other vehicles in traffic when this traffic cop came to stand in front of my car.”

Du Toit said the man was aggravated and started shouting at him.

“’You are not following instructions!’ the man shouted at me. What instructions? I was confused. If he came to me and told me calmly in which lane to drive in I would not have a problem.”

The video shows how chaos ensued after the traffic official slams his hands on the bonnet of the vehicle.

Gauteng traffic spokesperson Busaphi Nxumalo was not available for comment at the time of going to press.
