Halloween party thieves busted with 16 phones
Silverton police bust cellphone thieves outside Halloween party.
Silverton police busted four cellphone thieves outside the Arcade Empire halloween party on Saturday night.
Silverton police spokesperson Captain Jan Sepato said the bust was made after police were approached by a man who just had his phone stolen.
“Police officers were on a routine patrol outside The Grove mall when one of the party-goers ran up to them and said that his phone had just been stolen. He showed the officers that he could track his phone via GPS,” said Sepato.
“Unfortunately on the way to the GPS location the phone was switched off. The officers then decided to search nearby vehicles. One of those vehicles was a blue Toyota Corolla.”
Police spoke to the driver who then allowed the police to search the car. During the search police found 10 cellphones in the man’s possession.
He claimed they were his friends’ phones.
“The man continued to give different explanations as to why he had the phones in his possession. The officers then told him to phone his friends,” said Sepato.
“When the man’s three friends arrived police searched them too and found six more cellphones.”
The loot consisted of mostly iPhones and Samsung phones.
The four men were arrested and charged with possession of stolen goods.
Victims of cellphone theft in The Grove mall and Arcade Empire were advised to report to the Silverton police station.
