Two held over Mountain View killing

Two men charged with murder of homeless man in Mountain View.

Two men have been arrested in connection with the death of a homeless man in Mountain View.

Hercules police spokesperson Captain Reed Steynberg said both would face murder charges.

“Though some reports suggested that the victim was an older man, it is now thought that he may be in his late 20s or early 30s. His age has not been determined.”

The two men, aged 24 and 31, were arrested in the early hours of Sunday morning after they allegedly beat the homeless man to death with a rock.

Basic Ambulance Assistance spokesperson Albert Jansen van Nieuwenhuizen said the man was declared dead on scene.

CPF members spotteds the two men, who were involved in a scuffle with a man just after 02:00 between Charl Cillers Street and Sarel Avenue in Mountain View.

According to CPF members, the young men apparently said the victim was trying to damage their car. The man had a bruised lip and paramedics were called in to assist.

“The men did not, however, have a vehicle with them and we told the man he could lay charges of assault with the police. We left shortly after treating him. Withing a few minutes we were called back to the scene,” said Jansen van Nieuwenhuizen.

“When we arrived back on scene, the two men were still there but the third man was dead. He had been hit in the face with what appeared to be a large rock. We declared him dead when we arrived.”
