ATM at fuel station bombed

Five armed men were on the run after they bombed an ATM and a safe at a petrol station in Orchards.

Five armed men bombed a safe and an ATM at an Engen fuel station in Orchards, Pretoria North, on Wednesday night.

A source, who wished to remain anonymous, said four of the five men went inside the shop and assaulted the cashier around 21:20.

“They grabbed him and kicked him in the face, ordering him to show them the panic button. They then took him to the safe in the office and told him to lie on the floor.”

The robbers bombed the safe and then blew up the ATM inside the shop before they fled.

No one was injured.

Police spokesperson Constable Reneilwe Makwalo confirmed the robbery, saying the men fled in an unknown vehicle with an undisclosed amount of money.

“No arrests have been made as yet. Investigations continue.”
