A drug kingpin is expected to appear in court on Thursday for drug possession, after drugs were seized from his flat in Sunnyside on Tuesday, police said.
Spokesperson Asnath Melatsi said the 30-year-old man is a Tanzanian national.
“Members of the Soshanguve K9 unit were following up on information [from the public] about suspected drug manufacturing in a flat on the corner of Leyds and Pretorius streets,” she said.
“This led to the arrest of a suspect [outside the flat] who was in possession of drugs,” she said.
The man led the police to his supplier.
Melatsi said the accused told police he met his supplier at EPH outside the home affairs in Marabastad.
“The K9 Unit followed up on the info, and did a close observation until they traced (and arrested) the suspect [supplier]. The suspect then escorted police to the flat where they found drugs,” she said.
Melatsi said the flat had been converted into a drug lab and many different types of drugs were seized.
“Twenty-five ‘bullet’ wrappers, four packets of heroin and 242 heroin ‘straws’ with an estimated street value of R12 000 were found and subsequently seized.”
The man who led police to the kingpin is detained in the Hercules police station.
