Thieving truck driver fired, loses pension

Metro dismisses truck driver selling steel bins for scrap.

A Tshwane metro truck driver, Arthur Kiti, has been fired after he was found to have stolen steel bins from the metro and selling it as scrap metal.

Metro spokesperson Lindela Mashigo said Kiti’s dismissal forms part of the metro’s efforts to root out fraud and corruption.

He said Kiti was not the only municipal employee involved in the theft of bins.

“The metro’s forensic investigators instituted an investigation which discovered that four municipal employees were involved in these acts,” said Mashigo.

“The accused employees were arrested at their various workstations and were later released on bail. Kiti was subjected to a disciplinary process which found him guilty and he was dismissed on 14 October.”

Kiti’s pension and any money owed to him was forfeited.

A criminal case has also been opened against Kiti and his cohorts.

Mashigo said these acts of corruption cost the metro R25 million.
