Two men were arrested for different offences in Mamelodi East in 48 hours.
The first, for the rape of his ex-girlfriend on Sunday and the other for the theft of a friend’s car.
A 26-year-old man allegedly paid a surprise visit to his ex-girlfriend’s home after she had ignored numerous calls from him.
He stood outside waiting.
According to the Mamelodi East police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Michael Mbewe the man had ascertained his ex-girlfriend was with her new boyfriend.
“When she went to the toilet outside, he grabbed her, fired shots in the air threatening to kill the boyfriend if he did not leave. He then took her to his place where he assaulted and repeatedly raped her,” said Mbewe.
A 9mm pistol and ammunition were seized during his arrest.
In the other arrest, a 32-year-old man was arrested in the Mamelodi East section called Lusaka on Monday.
“The suspect allegedly told his friend he wanted to take his girlfriend home to Lusaka section after some drinks in a tavern. The owner opened the case when his car was not returned,” said Mbewe.
The complainant said he had received a call from a woman claiming to be the wife of the suspect telling him to collect the car in Soshanguve, but it was not there.
Both men are due to appear in Mamelodi magistrate’s court soon.
