Mamelodi’s most wanted criminal shot dead
Police are investigating a murder after Mamelodi's crime lord was shot dead on Sunday night.
Mamelodi crime kingpin ‘Junior 13’ was shot dead on Sunday night, in a drive-by shooting.
Police spokesperson Mirna von Benecke said the most-wanted criminal, whose real name is Monare Ignatius Selokwane, was killed in Mamelodi around 21:00, while sitting in a car with friends.
“The victim and his friends were sitting in a vehicle on a street corner when they were approached by another vehicle. Several shots were fired and the victim was fatally wounded,” she said.
She said his friends fled unharmed.
Selokwane was popularly known for being involved in several bank robberies and allegedly masterminded one of the most elaborate bank robberies in the country when he made off with over R26 million in 2003.
Police only managed to retrieve R1.5 million of the stolen loot.
“A murder case was opened and will be investigated,” Von Benecke said.
Anyone with information about the murder should contact the Mamelodi West police station on 012-812-9061 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
